I know that mornings can be chaotic, and evenings can be exhausting. But, not having a daily routine in place can lead to a build-up of mess and clutter. Think about it, if you're not doing a quick tidy in the morning and evening, those dirty dishes, unfolded laundry, and yesterday's coffee cups will soon pile up.
Fix: Start small! Commit to just 10-15 minutes of morning and evening cleaning. This can be as simple as putting away any clutter, wiping down the kitchen counters, and making your bed. Trust me, it makes a world of difference! Try setting a timer and making it a fun challenge. I like to ask Alexa to put some upbeat music on and I get the kids involved because, hey, they're the main culprits!
We've all been there – we see a fancy new organisational system on Pinterest, or a friend swears by a certain cleaning product, and we think, "Ah, that's the ticket!" Only to realise a few weeks later that it's just not working for us. Newsflash: constantly changing your method can lead to confusion, frustration, and a whole lot of mess.
Fix: Find a system that does the job and stick to it! Don't throw out a system until you've given it time. Sometimes systems take a while to become routine and if you give up too early because you're looking at the next shiny new thing, you'll never feel like any one system works at all. When in reality, you know deep down that one could work if you just gave it long enough.
If you're slogging it out with a system that's clearly not working, then experiment with different methods until you find one that fits your lifestyle and personality. It's okay to adapt and adjust as needed. Just don't be too hard on yourself if it's not perfect – systems need time to take root and the key is to find a rhythm that you can maintain in the long run.
This has been my achilles heel for the longest time because, frankly, cleaning can be DEAD boring, and sometimes it's just easier to put it off until tomorrow... or next week... or never! 😆 But, procrastination is a slippery slope, my friends! Before you know it, your home is overrun with dust bunnies and dirty socks.
Fix: Break it down into smaller, manageable tasks! Instead of looking at the big picture (i.e., the entire house), focus on one area at a time. Set a timer for 20 minutes and challenge yourself to tidy up as much as possible in that time. Take regular breaks, and reward yourself with a cuppa or a fun activity afterwards. And remember, every little bit counts – even just 10 minutes of cleaning a day can make a significant difference.
Be sure to grab our Speed Cleaning Checklist to help you out!
So there you have it! By establishing your minimum routines, finding a system that works for you, and overcoming procrastination, you'll be well on your way to a cleaner, happier home. Happy cleaning, and don't forget to take it one step at a time!
